USA First Foreign Investor in Morocco

Morocco received 6.3 billion dirhams (MMDH) or 578 million dollars of investments from the United States during the first 6 months of 2022.

Over the past decade, U.S. foreign direct investment (FDI) in Morocco has steadily increased from MAD 1.5 billion ($214 million based on the exchange rate at the time at the end of 2007 to 6.3 billion MAD ($578 million) in just the first half of 2022, according to the Moroccan Foreign Exchange Office data.

France was previously the first foreign investor in Morocco for more than a decade, it now ranks second since the United States took that status.

Manufacturing in Morocco attracted the largest volume of foreign investments from the USA.

Sector wise, the industry attracted the largest volume of foreign investment with nearly 10 billion MAD ($917.4 million). The real estate sector came in second place, attracting an investment volume set at 3.1 billion MAD ($284.4 million).

For the record, Morocco is the only country on the African continent with a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the United States, eliminating tariffs on more than 95 percent of qualifying consumer.
